Senior Mechanical Engineer
(Staff Position)
Metrol Technology Ltd. has a vacancy for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer. The successful applicant will work with a team of mechanical engineers, dealing with all mechanical aspects of Metrol’s equipment and systems.
The ideal candidate will have an appropriate engineering or science degree and 7-10 years of downhole tool design and development experience. Experience in the area of downhole ball valves would be advantageous.
Principal duties:
- Design of mechanical components and systems;
- Stress analysis calculations;
- Generate CAD models and drawings (layouts, assemblies, detail, client
etc);
- Generate procedures (assembly, test etc);
- Generate engineering test reports;
- Checking, approval and release of engineering documents;
- Project planning of engineering activities for major completion or DST
projects;
- Perform test build of new equipment;
- Perform prototype testing;
- Advising on ordering of equipment for new tools and development work;
- Participate in design reviews;
- Support internal and external customers on technical queries;
- Maintain design files & related documentation;
- Support operations by working at client sites (onshore and offshore);
- Provide support and mentoring to junior staff members;
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- CAD applications (Ideally Autodesk Inventor);
- MathCAD;
- Materials – metals and elastomers;
- MS Office applications;
- Mechanical components;
- Oilfield down hole tools;
- Stress analysis calculations;
- Project Engineering;
- National and international standards related to Oilfield equipment.

PCB Design Draughtsperson
Metrol Technology Ltd. has a vacancy for an experienced PCB Design Draughtsman. The successful applicant will work with a cross-functional team of PCB, electronic and mechanical engineers, expanding and enhancing the range of services that Metrol provide.
Job Description:
- Schematic & PCB design using Cadstar software. Upkeep of PCB parts &
schematic libraries.
- Schematic layout from sketches and documentation, parts lists, kitting
schedule with document control.
- Preparation of design data for board manufacture, gerbers, build files, etc.
- Liaise with engineers, production department and machine shop.
Required knowledge / experience:
In depth understanding of hardware engineering including Schematic capture, PCB design processes, PCB routing and electronics manufacturing, preferably in a down hole tool environment.
Knowledge of double sided, multilayer and mixed technology PCBs. Knowledge of Autocad Inventor would be an advantage.

Project Engineer
Metrol Technology Ltd. has a vacancy for an experienced project engineer. The successful applicant will work within a team of people from operational and engineering disciplines, dealing with all aspects of project work from concept through to delivery.
Required experience:
- Two years offshore running downhole tools
- Two years in an oilfield project role
Advantageous experience:

Working in close co-operation with Metrol’s R&D engineers, you will be involved in the assembly, testing, and repairing of a broad range of downhole electronic tools.
Required knowledge/experience:
- Experience of component level fault diagnosis, repair and test of
analogue and digital electronics is essential.
- Qualified to HND level, or appropriate experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience in the oil and gas sector
- Previous experience with high temperature electronics
- Familiarity with MS Office applications
- A willingness to travel, possibly off-shore, on an occasional basis

This is a permanent, and preferably full-time, position based in Aberdeen and requires:
- At least 5 years experience in electronic design.
- A BSc or MSc in an engineering subject – or a proven track record.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications.
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience in the oil and gas sector.
- Software / microprocessor skills.
- Previous experience with high temperature electronics.
- The ability to travel possibly off-shore on an occasional basis.
